Subfloor Preparation FAQs

For most subfloors, we would always recommend using a primer before installing the floor to avoid the chance of any failure with the installation. If you’re unsure – always prime!

You should always use a moisture meter to test the subfloor before installing the floor covering and ensure that the RH is 75% or 65% with UFH.

Damp subfloors can seriously slow down a build. Concrete can dry as slowly as 1mm per day in some circumstances.

Depending on the screed manufacturers guidelines, Marldon damp proof membrane solutions can be laid as soon as 28 days after concrete has been poured, saving weeks on your build schedule whilst still providing complete protection for timber and other flooring.

Supplied as a liquid, Marldon MXS140 DPM couldn’t be easier to install, comprehensively covering the most intricate floors without any cuts or tears that could compromise the seal.

A damp proof membrane such as Marldon MXS140 or Marldon MXS150 should be used when the subfloor moisture levels don’t meet the requirements listed by the floor covering manufacturer and the British Standards.

It can also be required as a preventative measure on some subfloors for example, a ground floor concrete slab that could draw moisture in the future and potentially lead to the failure of the floor covering.
